Watch this video overview showing the features and controls of the Smart Ass Fuel Mule.
Last-Mile Fueling is critical in Emergency Response
Power outages during disasters can paralyze hospitals, shelters, and command centers. Critical equipment like water pumps and light towers require fuel, most commonly diesel, to function. Traditional fueling methods are too slow and arduous to be practical in these scenarios. But up until now, they were your only option.
Fuel trucks can't reach equipment through debris-strewn, damaged areas, leaving you relying on smaller, more portable solutions. Manual refueling with fuel jugs is slow, physically exhausting, and dangerous. And standard gas caddies are too small and can't navigate rough terrain as they are light duty and just weren't designed to do so. They were designed for use in pristine concrete lots or at most, to most across a flat grassy area, and your crews don't have that luxury in this environment.
A 50-gallon motorized fuel transfer tank designed to GO ANYWHERE and then to PUMP THE FUEL when you get there, completely changes the game .
This motorized fuel caddy changes everything. Essentially, it's a motorized portable fuel tank with a fast 15gpm electric pump. With rechargeable onboard battery power for both the drivetrain and the pump. It delivers diesel, gasoline, kerosene, AVGAS, and even Jet A directly to generators, pumps, light towers, heaters, and debris-clearing equipment across challenging terrain that would stop conventional fueling solutions.
There is a Better Way. The Smart Ass Fuel Mule is a Game-Changer.
Ease of Use - The Ultimate Portable Fuel Tank with Pump
One person can load, unload, and navigate this motorized mobile fueling station to the point of need—no heavy lifting is required allowing even a small framed single individual to safely and easily move 300+ pound fuel loads to where they are required. Click here to see how easy it is to load and unload the Smart Ass Fuel Mule.
Versatility Across Equipment Types
Fuel multiple pieces of equipment in one solution: generators, light towers, heaters, trash pumps, excavators, and skid-steers, and any other small equipment. Even rescue boats and small aircraft, which is interestingly enough much closer to the original reason the product was conceived.
Efficiency That Saves Time & Manpower
The 50-gallon capacity reduces refueling frequency and eliminates multiple trips to a piece of equipment as compared to 5-gallon jugs or traditional light duty gas caddies. What if you could reduce the crew needed to keep equipment running by 50% or more? This unit makes that possible, freeing personnel for critical life-saving tasks.
Rapid Deployment
Able to be deployed within minutes allowing your crews to reach remote or damaged areas where fixed fuel stations are unavailable and fuel trucks cannot reach.
Built for Harsh Conditions
Thoughtful, purpose built design, engineering and construction ensures reliable operation in extreme weather and over storm-damaged terrain where traditional fueling methods fail. It'll go there....
Real-World Impact: Hurricane Helene Recovery
When Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina in fall 2024, the Smart Ass Fuel Mule proved its value in real world disaster conditions. (learn more about FEMA's Hurricane Helene response).
Adventures In Missions (AIM) operates a training camp in Black Mountain, just outside Asheville. Helene triggered a mudslide that decimated their facilities, knocked out power, and buried much of the camp. With months of rebuilding ahead in frigid conditions, they brought in four generators to power recovery operations.
A 75-year-old veteran took on the relentless task of keeping the camp powered. Every day, he drove miles to the nearest functional fuel station, returned with dozens of fuel jugs of various sizes and condition, and then dragged these heavy containers by hand to each generator and to fuel the Frost Fighter heater that was there to fight off the frigid winter temperatures in the camp.
Every day, all day, this task consumed a major portion of his time and effort. And then we sent up the gamechanger, The Smart Ass Fuel Mule motorized gas caddy.
After the camp received their Smart Ass Fuel Mule everything changed immediately. This hard-working veteran cut his fueling time in half or better. He could now transport 50 gallons around the camp fast, easy, and safely—and once where the fuel is needed he is able to rapidly pump fuel with zero physical strain. This was a welcome change after the constant jug-lugging he'd endured for weeks. The time and energy this saved him allowed him to contribute to other critical recovery tasks with his newly freed up time.
Essential Disaster Relief Equipment Fueling

- Generator Fuel Delivery
Power is the foundation of disaster response and recovery operations. Generators run hospitals, shelters, and communication hubs, but they consume fuel day in and day out. Our motorized mobile fueling station ensures continuous power with minimal downtime to enable your mission. And can be prepositioned for hurricane recovery or deployed during winter storm power outages.
- Light Towers for Nighttime Operations
Search-and-rescue operations and nighttime recovery work depend on consistent illumination. On-site fuel delivery keeps light towers operational when visibility is critical.
- Water & Trash Pumps
Flood recovery relies on pumps to remove water and debris from streets, structures, and infrastructure. The motorized fuel caddy ensures pumps stay operational during the most critical hours.
- Heaters in Cold-Weather Disasters
When winter storms strike, small portable heaters and larger space heaters like the Frost Fighter in the Black Mountain camp pics above keep shelters habitable and protect vulnerable populations. Whether diesel or kerosene operated, reliable fueling keeps these systems running, and your crews and those you are there to help warm.
- Debris-Clearing Equipment
Excavators, skid-steers, chainsaws and other equipment clears roads and removes debris, but only if it stays fueled. This is the ultimate mobile solution to support such equipment in the field.
Built for the Problems Emergency Managers Face
Disaster response involves damaged infrastructure, fuel scarcity, and limited access to remote sites. The Smart Ass Fuel Mule is a huge problem solver in this environment:
- Reduces dependence on local infrastructure — Rechargeable battery powered last-mile fuel delivery on tap.
- Navigates where fuel trucks cannot — Delivers fuel across debris-strewn terrain where other solutions cannot tread.
- Carries sufficient fuel to reduce resupply needs during multi-day events.
- Easy to transport for fill and delivery — Fits in pickup trucks or behind any vehicle capable of pulling a small trailer.
- Provides reliable portable fuel storage with motorized delivery capability — there's no easier way to transport and dispense fuel that 'last mile'. Particularly when the terrain is rough.
Whether navigating wildfire-damaged terrain in California or delivering fuel across hurricane-ravaged coastal areas in Florida, this mobile fueling station ensures your fuel delivery needs never slow you down in your response and recovery mission.
Federal Agency & Military Applications
The Smart Ass Fuel Mule serves critical fueling needs across federal operations:
US Military Forward Operating Bases:
Rapidly fuel generators, heaters, and equipment in remote deployment scenarios where fuel truck access is limited.
National Park Service:
Pre-position fuel at Wildfire Response fire camps and deliver to hand crews, pumps, and equipment across rugged backcountry terrain during wildfire suppression operations.
Strategically deploy mobile fueling stations at remote facilities across national parks for fueling law enforcement/park ranger vehicles and equipment. One customer, a NPS.gov pilot and law enforcement officer at Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska, recently purchased a Smart Ass Fuel Mule Aviation Edition to fuel his airplane at a remote location in the park. His words, not ours -- "This is 1000x better than what we've been doing".
He explained that they up until now they have had to airdrop drums of fuel to the remote locations where he must land his plane to do the work of a park ranger, and then to refuel to move on to the next task. This involves maintaining fuel and making it accessible at countless cabins and other facilities across the 3.3 million acre park. They must use equipment onsite to manually move the drum into a storage location. Then when needed, they hand pump that fuel into jerry cans to manually fill their airplanes, or in some cases use other equipment to move the drum out to the plane, fuel, and then return the drum to storage. While they still must airdrop drums of fuel they can now immediately transfer this fuel into their Smart Ass Fuel Mule and then easily move it to storage and back out to fuel equipment anytime they need. This is 1000 times better he says. We believe him.
Bureau of Land Management Operations:
